I am at a point where I may just pack my shit and flee to Puerto Rico with one of my best friends. I am dead serious. I have lost my job, moved back home. The student loan people are hounding me. Job prospects looking blah. I am just not happy.
A few days ago my best friend Mari hit me up and told me she is moving to Puerto Rico. She is in a similar position I am in. Her job prospects are slim. Life just seems at a standall. She is moving down July 21 and she sent me an invite. Not only has she looked at apartments but she sent me a listing of jobs available down there.
I normally dont make decisions like this. My decisions tend to be well thought out. However, this is alluring. I have no kids, family, or home. No obligations are keeping me here in Baltimore.
Dont be surprised that the next time you hear from me it is from Puerto Rico.

Honestly- I say GO. For ALL the reasons you listed. It could be a great experience. And if you don't like it, you can always come home. Please keep us posted- I will definitely pray for you.

homie, tell the student loan people you're unemployed. they will stop hounding you and defer payments until you have a job. and then if you get a PT job, you still won't be required to pay. apply for the PR jobs. that would be an awesome experience if you got one. don't move w/o a job tho.

When I was a little younger than you, I took off for Florida and lived there for a tad over a year, knew no one. I'd not trade that year for anything. Then I went back home and started over there. Then I moved to Texas when I was about your age, a tad older, knowing no one and started over here...25 years ago, never regretted it. So, follow your heart babe, there are very few mistakes that you can't overcome.
Regardless, I'm on your side and continue to lift you up.

Do what my homeboy did... he went online...found a death certificate template...filled it in so that it looked official and sent it in to the student loan creditor with a note from his mother stating that her son had passed on.
I know that's wrong... but you know....folks will try anything to get out of paying their bills....
I sooo remember being in that exact same position. Unfortunately, this is the time in your life for this kind of turmoil. Have faith, it will get better. It's all about the totem pole of life: you gotta climb your way up to see clearly. This is also the point in your life to make some whimsical choices i.e., moving to PR. I say go for it. You only live once and right now, you have nothing to forfeit. When you are older, married and someone's daddy, this option will be less accessible. If you are not afraid of falling, I say JUMP.

2 years ago, I wanted to do the same thing, except I wanted to go somewhere I spoke the language. I stuck it out though and things turned around, as they have a tendency to do. At least you got family to take you in.
